White Crosses And A Broken Heart

Thursday, November 17, 2011

We had a trip this week to the west side of northern Montana and on our way back I drove for a few hours. As I was driving I started to see white crosses on the sides of the road. At 181 miles left to go on Hwy 2 (in my portion of the drive) I started to count the white crosses. I hit 10, then 20, then 35, and 40. My heart was starting to break. See each of these crosses represents a highway fatality. I kept driving and seeing more and more crosses. Counting 50, 60, 70. I would see groups of two and three and even seven. It got to the point where all you saw were these white crosses on a red stake. I would pray to not see another, but with each intersection, bridge, curve there would be more. by the time I counted number 88 I was in tears. I had only been driving for 142 miles and yet there were 88 white crosses, fatalities. I stopped to take a picture and decided I needed to share what has been on my heart.

This is 88

My heart was so broken as I drove my 181 mile stretch of Hwy 2. I kept thinking that these are someones mom or dad or brother or sister, best friend or enemy. All the small things seem so minor in the scheme of things like this. I felt so much pain for the families and friends of these loved ones that were lost on the road. So I beg of you with tear filled eyes to be careful out there especially with going into this Holiday season. These 100s of white crosses are in Northern Montana where the population of deer might be higher than people are a heart breaking reminder to be careful.

But what breaks my heart more than anything is the thought of how many of these white crosses were followers of Christ. I would  love to think they all were, but I know that would be wrong. It is such a chilling reminder of the importance of sharing Christ's love with others. He died on a cross so we can live in his light and love. Tomorrow is never a guarantee.

Our Wedding Day in Pictures

Wednesday, November 9, 2011

We received a fun package from our dear friend and wedding photographer Sara Hasstedt ( click her name to see all of her amazing work). Our package was full of fun things to keep us busy on our first snow day here in North Dakota! It also had our pictures! So excited to share them with you and we hope you enjoy them!

We were able to pray with each other before  everything. Such a blessing

Only Kyle!! I love it.
We had an amazing God loving wedding party. It was very important to us that everyone who was apart of our wedding day had a personal relationship with the Lord. And our wedding party was no exception these ladies and gentlemen love Jesus with all of their hearts and stood up with us as fellow believers as we said our vows. We couldn't be more thankful or blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives.

The Men

Kyle and his Best Man and brother Kory

The Ladies

Marquette and her Maid of Honor Alex Jane

Our SUPER attractive wedding party!

It was really important to us that our wedding ceremony be Christ centered, and it was. We had a good friend, Dave Powers, officiate the wedding and he did a fabulous job. It was full of prayers, beautiful music (by Dave and his wife Tara), lots of love, tears, and joy. It was perfect.

Marquette's brother, Blake, is a Marine serving in Afghanistan.
We wanted him and all service men  to be honored

We chose to take communion as one for the very first time.
Making our vows not only to each other, but a promise to be a chord of three:
Christ, Husband, Wife.

Oh the details! I love the details. I was so happy that Sara got photos of all the little details that helped to make our day so beautiful.

We really wanted people to have fun and enjoy themselves at our reception. We had the Nebraska Huskers game on a huge screen, music playing, and lots of wonderful food and deserts.

Alex Jane (MOH) and Kory (BM)
We had all of the wedding party come  into the reception
by dancing to Lady Gaga's "You and I" They all ROCKED it!

In honor of the Husker game the Bridesmaids and Groomsmen came up
with a little surprise for us.... A football play.

MOH Alex Jane praying at the end of her speech.

Kyle couldn't even look at his brother and best man Kory during his
speech or else they would both cry. Such a precious relationship they have.

Our first dance was to Brad Paisley's "Then"

I loved this moment I got with my Dad.
He is such a huge part of who I am today.

HUSKERS SCORED!!!

I love my mom more than words can describe.
She means more to me than she will ever know.

And then it was time to get down and have some fun!

Is she not THE cutest mommy-to-be ever!!!

Alex Jane (MOH) took down fellow bridesmaid Katie for the boquet!!

Poor Kory!!

The reason our wedding day ever happen....The two women in the middle have been best friends since they were little. They also happen to be our moms. Not only did they bring us together as a couple but they really made the whole wedding planning fun and easy. The two men on the outside, our dads, are both firm and grounded men who helped keep our focus on the reason we were coming together. They are prime examples of a Godly leader who leads his family well.

If it wasn't for these four people our day never would have happen. We love you.
